Some weddings feel like a movie; Isabelle and Devon's felt like a warm September afternoon with everyone you love. Their wedding at Estate 248 in Langley, BC was full of soft daylight, honest emotion and a bridal party with more energy than we could keep up with. We were there as a team of two photographers, which meant we could catch every glance, every laugh and every little detail from more than one angle.
Getting Ready
The day started slowly at the white farmhouse on the property, with Isabelle's dress hanging by the window and her cowboy boots waiting underneath it. Inside, her bridesmaids piled around her in emerald satin robes, all laughter and hugs. Then came the quiet details: her mom fastening her necklace in front of the mirror, a little perfume by the window, and those embroidered cowboy boots going on under her gown. Elegant from head to toe, and completely herself.
Devon & His Groomsmen
While Isabelle was getting ready, Devon was outside with his groomsmen under the big old tree by the farmhouse. He wore a dark green suit with a peach and blue boutonniere, and his guys matched him in beige suits and dark green ties. There was a lot of teasing, a lot of laughing, and one very relaxed walk across the lawn with jackets over their shoulders. Calm, happy, and ready to see his bride.
An Emotional First Look
Before the ceremony, Isabelle and Devon met at the corner of the farmhouse. They held hands from either side of the wall before they could see each other, then Isabelle reached for him and turned the corner. The hug that followed was quiet, a little teary, and one of our favourite moments of the day. Meanwhile, Devon and his groomsmen, in beige suits next to his dark green one, were getting ready under the big old tree.
A Barn Ceremony
The ceremony took place inside the barn, under a dark wooden arch draped in soft white fabric and lit by vintage chandeliers. Isabelle's dad walked her down the aisle, and from the moment she reached Devon, they couldn't stop smiling at each other. After the vows, they walked back down the aisle hand in hand, laughing, while the whole barn cheered.
The Bridal Party
If you're looking for a bridal party that brings the energy, this was it. Bridesmaids in mixed shades of sage and emerald, groomsmen in beige suits, bouquets up in the air and a tunnel of flowers for the newlyweds. We also tried two of our favourite creative ideas: a motion-blur shot with everyone walking around the couple while they stood still, and a mirror shot with the whole bridal party cheering around their reflection.
Portraits in the Golden Light
For portraits we stayed outdoors, using the gardens, the tall cedar hedges, the old trees and the late-afternoon sun. Some moments were calm and editorial, like the two of them under her veil or framed between the branches. Others were pure joy: a twirl on the lawn, a spin in Devon's arms, and lots of laughter as they walked hand in hand. Isabelle's off-the-shoulder lace gown and Devon's dark green suit looked timeless in both colour and black and white.
The Celebration
The evening was relaxed and full of heart: BBQ dinner from Memphis Blues, a coffee bar by Latte Booth and desserts from Krause Berry Farms. The parent dances were some of the most emotional moments of the night, with Devon dancing with his mom and Isabelle with her dad.
Isabelle and Devon, thank you for trusting us with your day. It was full of love, light and joy, and we're so happy we got to tell your story.
